Kindle Colorsoft Case: Which One Fits Your Colorsoft

"Kindle Colorsoft" now covers four different devices: the original 2024 Signature Edition, a cheaper 16 GB model from 2025, a redesigned 2026 Colorsoft that ships at the end of October, and the much larger Kindle Scribe Colorsoft. A case that fits one may not fit the next. This guide sorts out which Colorsoft you have, which cases are made for it, and the few things about a color Kindle that change what to look for in a case, such as Double Tap, wireless charging and the pogo pins on the 2026 Signature Edition.

Which Colorsoft do you have?

Start here, because the name alone does not tell a case seller which body you own.

• 7-inch, power button on the bottom edge, launched 2024: the Kindle Colorsoft Signature Edition. Amazon's listing calls it "Kindle Colorsoft Signature Edition (1st Generation) – 2024 release." It has 32 GB, an auto-adjusting front light and Qi wireless charging.
• The same shape, 16 GB, launched July 24, 2025: the Kindle Colorsoft 16 GB. Amazon's announcement says the Signature Edition adds an auto-adjusting front light, wireless charging and 32 GB over it. The Kindle Colorsoft Kids launched the same day with its own kid-friendly cover included.
• 7-inch with the power button on the right edge, near the top: the 2026 Kindle Colorsoft or Colorsoft Signature Edition, announced October 1, 2026 and shipping October 28. The Verge reports the button moved across the new lineup; the Signature Edition has an aluminum back with pogo pins.
• 11-inch with a pen: the Kindle Scribe Colorsoft (2025). See the Scribe Colorsoft section.

To confirm, the Kindle's Device Info screen in settings shows the device's name and generation, according to Amazon's user guides, and so does your device list in your Amazon account. The release year is the safer matching key than any generation number.

Colorsoft models compared

Two cautions on the table. First, we could not confirm the 2026 Colorsoft's width and height or the Signature Edition's weight in Amazon's materials or reliable coverage; one blog's figures, as they appeared in search results, did not add up, so we leave them out. Second, the 2024 Colorsoft weighs 8 g more than the 2024 Paperwhite (219 g against 211 g, both Amazon figures), which does not change the fit of a case made for the shared body.

2024 and 2025 Colorsoft cases

For the 2024 Signature Edition, the fit question is simpler than it looks. Amazon gives exactly the same outer dimensions for it and for the 2024 Paperwhite, 127.6 × 176.7 × 7.8 mm, and Amazon's plant-based leather case says it is "compatible with Kindle Paperwhite, Kindle Paperwhite Signature Edition (Fits 2024 Release Only), Kindle Colorsoft and Kindle Colorsoft Signature Edition." Third-party accessory makers group them the same way: for example, a tempered-glass screen protector sold at Best Buy is titled for the "Kindle Paperwhite 2024 and Colorsoft." That is why our 2024 Paperwhite case section notes that many 2024 listings also name the Colorsoft.

Our advice still is to buy a case whose title names the Colorsoft, not just "Paperwhite." Same outer dimensions do not guarantee that a seller has checked the cutouts, the magnet position for auto sleep/wake, or the fit around the Signature Edition's features. Recent reviews from Colorsoft owners, searched for "Colorsoft," "fit" and "button," are the best check we know of.

The 2025 Colorsoft 16 GB is where we have less to go on. Amazon's case listing names the "Kindle Colorsoft" as well as the Signature Edition, and Amazon's announcement describes the difference from the Signature Edition in features (front light, wireless charging, storage) rather than size, but we did not find a separate dimension listing for it. Treat a case that names both as the safe choice.

What about older Paperwhite cases? A 2021 Paperwhite case will not do: the 2021 model is a 6.8-inch body of about 124.6 × 174 × 8.1 mm in our Paperwhite case guide, smaller than the Colorsoft.

Search Amazon: 2024 Colorsoft cases

2026 Colorsoft cases

Amazon announced a redesigned Colorsoft on October 1, 2026: a 16 GB model at $289.99 in Graphite and a Signature Edition at $319.99 in Graphite and Fig, with an aluminum housing, 32 GB, an auto-adjusting front light, Double Tap and pogo-pin dock charging. WIRED gives both the Paperwhite and the Colorsoft as 6.8 mm thick and 204 g. Pre-orders open on a rolling basis and the devices ship October 28, 2026.

For cases, that adds up to a new body. It is a full millimeter thinner than the 2024 Colorsoft, The Verge reports the power button moved from the bottom to the right edge near the top, and Amazon describes a flush-front display with color that "wraps seamlessly from front to back." A 2024 case would at best be loose and at worst cover the button, so do not reuse one.

• Amazon's 2026 covers: Kindle Covers from $39.99 in knit fabric, plant-based leather and pebbled premium leather that "wrap fully around the device," color-matched across the lineup.
• Slim magnetic-attach covers: Amazon says these are also available for devices with aluminum housing, which includes the Colorsoft Signature Edition. Our cover guide explains the magnetic-attach trade-off.
• Page-Turn Cover ($79.99): a magnetic cover with physical page-turn buttons that connects through the pogo pins, for the Paperwhite and Colorsoft Signature Editions.
• Third-party: at our check the 2026 Colorsoft had not shipped, so any third-party listing for it was made before owners could test fit. Look for reviews from owners after October 28.

What a color screen changes about choosing a case

Less than you might expect. We looked for anything Amazon or independent reviewers say about cases and color displays specifically, and here is what we found, and did not find.

So the color screen itself is not a reason to pick a different case. The real Colorsoft-specific factors are the Signature Edition features in the next section. If you are weighing a screen protector, our screen protector notes apply to the shared 2024 body, with the added unknown of how a protector interacts with the color filter layer, which we could not verify.

Signature Edition features and cases

These are the features where a case can get in the way, by model.

• Double Tap (2024 and 2026 Signature Editions). Amazon's 2024 Colorsoft guide describes accelerometer-based tap detection: tap twice quickly on the side or back, outside the screen, to go forward. It adds that the feature "has been tested with the official Amazon Kindle Colorsoft case, but may not work with all third party cases." If you rely on it, that is a reason to start with Amazon's case or to test a third-party case within its return window. Our page turner guide covers the feature.
• Qi wireless charging (2024 Signature Edition). The user guide says it charges on "any compatible Qi-certified wireless charger," then lists ten Qi-certified chargers that do not work with it because of "mechanical incompatibility." Amazon's wireless dock for it states a 4 mm case limit, and Amazon's safety text says to keep metallic or magnetic objects, including metallic cases, off the charger. A thin, non-metal case is the safest pairing.
• Pogo pins (2026 Signature Edition). The contacts on the back connect to Amazon's $59.99 Charging Dock and the $79.99 Page-Turn Cover. A case that covers them blocks both. Notebookcheck reported that the dock had no release date at launch, while the Page-Turn Cover ships October 28.
• USB-C (2024 and 2025 models; 2026 Signature Edition per The Verge). Amazon's plant-based case can stay on while charging. For third-party cases, check the cutout. Our Kindle charger guide lists Amazon's charge times and adapters for the Colorsoft.

The 16 GB models have none of the first three, so for them the choice is about fit, style and the USB-C cutout.

Amazon's own Colorsoft cases

The 2024 plant-based case had 4.6 stars from about 6,900 ratings (6,904) when we rechecked on October 5, 2026. Amazon's review summary says owners like its fit, color and feel, while opinions on value and on how leather-like the material feels are mixed, with some saying it feels like hard plastic. That is a summary of other people's opinions, not our test. Third-party cases are cheaper and more varied, and we do not rank them.

Kindle Scribe Colorsoft

The Scribe Colorsoft shares the Colorsoft name and display technology but not the size: it is an 11-inch writing tablet at 189 × 245 × 5.4 mm and 400 g by Amazon's figures, with the Premium Pen attached magnetically to the right side. Its cases are Scribe cases, with pen loops or flaps and attention to the pen magnet, and Amazon's listing says it charges in less than 3 hours with a 20W USB-C adapter. Search Amazon: Scribe Colorsoft cases

Colorsoft case red flags

• "Colorsoft case" with no screen size. It may be for the 11-inch Scribe Colorsoft.
• One listing for "all Colorsoft" spanning 2024 and 2026. The 2026 body is thinner with the button in a different place.
• Only "Paperwhite" in the title. A 2024 Paperwhite case may fit, but a listing that names the Colorsoft is safer, and a 2021 or 2026 Paperwhite case will not.
• Metal plates or strong magnets in the back if you charge a 2024 Signature Edition wirelessly.
• Coverage over the pogo pins on a 2026 Signature Edition if you want the dock or Page-Turn Cover.
• "Official" or "Amazon certified" on a non-Amazon product. We cannot verify it and do not use that language ourselves.

How we researched this

This guide uses Amazon.com listings for the 2024 Colorsoft Signature Edition, the 2024 Paperwhite, the Scribe Colorsoft and Amazon's plant-based leather case; Amazon's 2024 Colorsoft user guide; Amazon's July 2025 Colorsoft announcement and its October 1, 2026 lineup announcement; and coverage from The Verge and WIRED. We have not tested any case, and we do not rank third-party products. Prices and ratings are snapshots from October 5, 2026. Do Kindle Paperwhite cases fit the Kindle Colorsoft?

A case for the 2024 Paperwhite usually does, and a case for any other Paperwhite does not. Amazon lists identical outer dimensions for the 2024 Paperwhite and the 2024 Colorsoft Signature Edition (127.6 × 176.7 × 7.8 mm), and Amazon's own plant-based leather case is listed for the 2024 Paperwhite, the Colorsoft and the Colorsoft Signature Edition. The 2021 Paperwhite is a smaller 6.8-inch body, and the 2026 Paperwhite and Colorsoft are a new, thinner design. Buy a case whose title names your Colorsoft, not just "Paperwhite."

Will a 2024 Colorsoft case fit the 2026 Colorsoft?

We have no evidence that it will, and two reasons to doubt it. WIRED gives the 2026 Colorsoft as 6.8 mm thick, against Amazon's 7.8 mm for the 2024 model, and The Verge reports that the 2026 models moved the power button from the bottom to the right edge near the top, so the cutouts and the fit differ. We found no published width and height for the 2026 Colorsoft yet. Wait for a listing that names the 2026 model, or start with one of Amazon's 2026 covers.

Is a Kindle Colorsoft case the same as a Kindle Scribe Colorsoft case?

No, and this is the easiest mistake to make. The Kindle Colorsoft is a 7-inch e-reader; the Kindle Scribe Colorsoft is an 11-inch writing tablet at 189 × 245 × 5.4 mm with a magnetic pen on the side. Their cases are not interchangeable. Search results for "Colorsoft case" mix both, so check the screen size in the title. For the Scribe, use our Scribe case guide.

Does a case affect the Colorsoft's color screen?

We found no Amazon statement or independent test saying it does. A folio covers the screen only when it is closed; when open, the case wraps the back and frame. What Amazon does say is that the Colorsoft display adds a color filter layer, so its texture or brightness can look different from a Paperwhite's, and that its covers have a microfiber interior to help protect the screen from scratches. A screen protector is a different matter, and there we found listings but no tests of how one affects color or glare.

Does Double Tap work with a case on?

Amazon's user guide for the 2024 Colorsoft says the Signature Edition's Double Tap feature, which turns the page when you tap the side or back twice, "has been tested with the official Amazon Kindle Colorsoft case, but may not work with all third party cases." A thick or very soft case could plausibly dampen the taps, but we have not tested any. If you use Double Tap, Amazon's case is the one option Amazon says was tested.

Can I wirelessly charge my Colorsoft in a case?

Only the 2024 Colorsoft Signature Edition supports Qi wireless charging; Amazon's 2025 announcement says wireless charging is one of the things the Signature Edition adds over the 16 GB model. Amazon's wireless dock is listed for the "Kindle Colorsoft Signature Edition (2024 Release)" and states a 4 mm case limit, and Amazon's safety text says to keep metallic or magnetic objects, including metallic cases, off a wireless charger. The 2026 Colorsoft Signature Edition uses a pogo-pin dock instead, so a case must leave the pins on the back clear.

Do the Colorsoft 16 GB and the Signature Edition use the same case?

Amazon's own plant-based leather case lists both the "Kindle Colorsoft" and the "Kindle Colorsoft Signature Edition," which suggests a shared body for the 2024 and 2025 models, but we did not find separate published dimensions for the 16 GB model. For the 2026 generation, the Signature Edition has an aluminum back and pogo pins, and Amazon also sells slim magnetic-attach covers for aluminum models, so check that a 2026 case names your exact edition.

How much is Amazon's official Colorsoft case?

When we checked on October 5, 2026, Amazon's plant-based leather case for the 2024 Paperwhite and Colorsoft was listed at $42.99 in Raspberry, with prices varying by color and seller. For the 2026 lineup, Amazon's announcement lists Kindle Covers from $39.99 and the Page-Turn Cover at $79.99 for the Signature Editions. Prices change often; the Amazon listing is the source of truth.
